Children sing as part of Easter celebrations at Lighthouse

Children who were previously exploited, or at risk of exploitation, joined with Hope for Justice’s staff for a joyful Easter celebration:

These young people are receiving shelter and care at Mary Lighthouse – one of our short-term residential aftercare facilities – in Uganda.

It is so uplifting to hear their singing. The lyrics, sung in Swahili, translate: “He rose, He rose, He rose from the dead, and the Lord shall bear His children home. They crucified my Saviour and nailed Him to the cross, and the Lord shall bear His children home.”

Over the Easter weekend, children at the Lighthouse took part in seasonal activities, including learning about Jesus’ life on earth, His death and resurrection. They also took part in an Easter skit, watched a movie about the life of Jesus, learned new cooking skills, played sports and watched videos of themselves taking part – something some of them had never done before.

Easter Sunday coincided with the International Day for Street Children, with the theme for this year’s campaign being ‘Safe Spaces for Street Connected Children’. So, the children also took part in activities centred around this topic, creating drawings and presentations about the things that make them feel safe.
