Freedom for young mother who was trapped in sexual exploitation

After several years of sexual exploitation by the same man, a young mother from the Midwest is now finally safe and can begin a new life.

Gina*, who is in her early 20s, had been under the control of traffickers since she was young. Recently, she had to have medical treatment for an injury related to her exploitation, and fortunately Hope for Justice’s US team were contacted by healthcare workers at the hospital. They were aware of the warning signs of sexual exploitation, having recently been trained by Hope for Justice.

Our team sprang into action, getting the full details of the case and securing appropriate aftercare for Gina and her young son, who are now safe and well cared for.

We will continue to support and work with Gina on a regular basis, and as she begins to recover and regains her strength, we will help her create a plan for her future.

Dr Richard Schoeberl, US Team Leader at Hope for Justice, said: “Our immediate concern was to ensure that Gina and her son had a safe place to live, where Gina could begin to recover after she left hospital.

“In the coming weeks and months, we will work with her closely to ensure her ongoing safety, and reduce the risk of her being trafficked and exploited again. In time, we may support her to move to another state.

“We are also determined to do everything we can to assist law enforcement in their efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice, and prevent him from doing this again.”
